Olds Friction-Fit TIS trombone with Bear Counterweight. LM bore (.495/.510). This is a very early model, and it appears to be absolutely top of the line. It has areas of silver plate and other areas of gold plate. The bell is done in three layers, silver on gold on silver, leaving the engraving to shine through in gold. The engraving is very elaborate, and runs all the way down the surface of the bell. There's no lacquer on the horn. The plating is rough in places, especially at touch points and in places that rubbed against the fabric of the original case, but it's fairly good considering the age of the horn. I've gone through it and put it in playing condition. I haven't done a "restoration" on it, but it's certainly worth restoring or playing as is. The slide is in good alignment and falls easily under its own weight. The nickel inners are smooth and have no bends, crimps or dents. The tuning mechanism works as it should. The bell section has no major dents, but the "J-tube" (going from the slide connector to the bell junction) has been reworked and the rear guard has been re-soldered in place. These horns are really a treat to play. They're very versatile. The partials line up rock solid and the tone is very sweet and pure. I play a similar horn as my main instrument in a swing band. It ships in a gig bag, and I'll pack it very well to make sure it stays in good shape. Please email me with any questions.

These early Tempo's were advertised as moderately priced professional grade instruments featuring nickel plated bells. “Cleveland” was the name used for student line instruments during the HN White Company days.. Tempo’s featured a more expensive nickel plated bell, but the engraving was more basic and the slides featured brass outer tubes instead of the more expensive nickel silver used on the 2B. The slide action is just as great, but it lowered the price of the trombone. H. N. White King Tempo instruments were manufactured between 1962 and 1965 when the company was sold and the name changed to King Musical Instrument Company. This super trombone was crafted in 1971 in the new King Eastlake factory by many of the same craftsmen and women that worked for the H. N. White company with the same attention to detail and quality stressed by the White family. This trombone serial number is 467XXXX. In the 1980’s the Cleveland name was dropped and the student trombones were called the Tempo 606 or 605. The King 606 and 605 were such popular student trombones that this poor marketing strategy soon led to the Tempo name as being thought of only as student models. This was a great disservice to the other models in the Tempo line. The Tempo 607 & 608 were still marketed as moderately priced professional F attachment trombones and the King 1306 was a verson of the King 3B.. Here's your chance to get a great playing instrument at a bargain price! This trombone is almost identical to the King 2B trombone. The only differences are the .491" single bore slide and the nickel plated bell. The single bore slide actually produces a little easier middle and low range than the 2B dual bore slide while still offering an exceptional high register. There are a lot of 2B’s out there with this same single bore slide as it has been a very common customer request. In fact the Jiggs Whigham model 2B features a .491 single bore slide! The bell section is exactly the same as the King 2B except the bell is nickel plated. I’ve included a picture of this bell alongside a 2B Silver Sonic bell (NOT INCLUDED) to show how similar they are. The nickel plated bell is actually more expensive and produces a tone similar to a silver plated bell, or the sterling silver bells, prompting the nickname “The Poor Man’s Silver Sonic” The trombone features a 7-3/8” diameter NICKEL PLATED BELL and a .491” single bore slide with nickel silver trim with brass outer slide tubes.
